Gavin Newsom Finds Himself Agreeing with Charlie Kirk and Reality Implodes
Gavin Newsom accidentally discovers common sense, panics, immediately returns to woke comfort zone.
Suppose you told me yesterday that California Governor Gavin Newsom and conservative provocateur Charlie Kirk would agree on something. In that case, I’d have asked what you were smoking—and if you had extra.
Yet here we are.
Newsom publicly admitted that boys competing in girls' sports is "deeply unfair."
Congratulations, Governor. Welcome to Biology 101.
Of course, admitting the obvious isn’t exactly brave—it’s more like a kid finally confessing that eating crayons doesn’t taste that good after all. Still, it’s notable when a Democrat in California dares to depart from the woke script, even momentarily.
But this is Gavin Newsom we’re talking about; he knows better than to linger in reality.
After briefly brushing up against common sense, he immediately pivots to the progressive comfort zone, invoking the emotional and genuinely tragic issues of suicide risk and depression and calls for "grace" around transgender athletes.
Who Needs Results When You’ve Got Rhetoric?
And there you have it, America: the perfect distillation of the modern left’s dilemma.
Democrats like Newsom are discovering that it's tough to juggle their twin obsessions—fairness and inclusivity—especially when the two collide head-on. But instead of choosing a lane and driving in it, they’re stuck in a roundabout of endless “dialogue,” afraid of upsetting the vocal minority or alienating their activist base. Meanwhile, reality keeps running laps around them.
Even Newsom admits Democrats are getting "crushed" on this.
Meanwhile, Charlie Kirk smugly calls it an "80/20 issue."
As much as it pains me to agree with Kirk, the numbers don’t lie. Most voters, regardless of party, recognize the inherent unfairness when biological males dominate female sports.
It’s like trying to convince people that gravity is negotiable—good luck with that one.
Democrats’ Self-Inflicted Ad Campaign Nightmare
Newsom accidentally gave away the game when he called Trump's "He’s for you, she’s for they/them" ad one of the most devastating of the 2024 cycle.
Think about it: If a single piece of conservative messaging stings worse than a year’s worth of traditional GOP attack ads, Democrats might want to reconsider their priorities.
Maybe spending your political capital policing pronouns instead of addressing actual voter concerns isn’t the winning strategy they thought.
But here’s the kicker—Newsom can’t easily walk this back.
California’s been baking these hyper-progressive policies into law since 2014, trapping its politicians in ideological quicksand.
The activists who elevated Newsom aren’t exactly known for compromise or nuance, so what can he do? He’s left performing rhetorical gymnastics worthy of an Olympic gold medal, trying to "stress-test" public opinion without ever committing to a position that could actually satisfy voters.
Make It Make Sense
Here’s a wild thought: maybe voters care more about fairness and common sense than ideological purity tests.
Newsom can talk about “grace and humility” all he wants, but unless he—and Democrats writ large—are willing to confront this contradiction head-on, voters will keep showing them the door.
After all, the average voter isn’t stuck in an ideological bubble. They live in a world where reality matters, facts matter, and fairness still means something.
So, Governor, enjoy this brief, unicorn-like moment of bipartisan clarity.
It probably won’t last. Soon enough, you'll be back to performing mental backflips to please an audience that lost interest in logic long ago.
In the meantime, voters will continue asking the same simple question that Newsom's own friends are already whispering: "What the hell is going on?"
That’s the point.
